USMCA - Entrepreneurial Training Institute
The program’s main objective is to provide technical services to promote job readiness, business startups, business growth, bidding opportunities, and sustainability in many commercial industries.

The USMCA Entrepreneurial Institute will offer a series of customized training and technical assistance services for small, minority and women owned businesses across the United States. USMCA will provide its membership and public at large with significant technical training, coaching and mentoring around structured training programs based on compliance, best business practices and business plan development.

Individual participants will learn the elements of entrepreneurship, wealth and job creation.  The USMCA Entrepreneurship Training Institute creates an environment of success, by providing hands-on, one-on-one instruction to the serious entrepreneur and business owner.

The primary goal and objective of the USMCA Entrepreneurship Training Institute is to increase the numbers of successful minority owned businesses by increasing the competitive edge and profitability through the various classes offered.
Business Plan Development
  • Session 1 - Introduction USMCA, Feasibility/Business Plan - Introduction to the overall scope and objectives of developing a solid feasibility and business plan for new and existing businesses
  • Session 2 - Communicating the business concept - Every successful business must know how to communicate its goals through succinct planning and preparation this session will introduce the concepts surrounding effective communication of business needs
  • Session 3 - Communicating the business concept 2 - provides more detail communicating the business concept and is a continuation of Session 2
  • Session 4 - Gathering information for Feasibility / Library Research - In order to ensure the success of any business, one must have knowledge of the demographics pertaining to the business venture.  This includes doing feasibility studies and research 
  • Session 5 - Product and Services / Managing Money - Each business must have a plan that includes understanding one’s product and services and establishing a niche for your business.  Money management will provide the necessary tools to ensure the growth of the business which is critical for success
  • Session 6 -  Product and Services/Managing Money - More in-depth study on understanding your products and services and money management
  • Session 7 – Market Analysis: Industry and Competition - Every business venture has competition.  This session will show you how to evaluate the competition and review the industry of existing businesses.
  • Session 8 - Market Analysis: Market Segments and Strategies - A  successful entrepreneur must have a completed market analysis plan which includes a thorough understanding of the  existing market and future ventures
  • Session 9 - Financial Literacy and Development - Each successful entrepreneur must have financial savvy; understanding how to make money and grow your business is addressed in this session
  • Session 10 - Financial Literacy and Development - Session 10 will continue to expound on financial literacy and development
  • Session 11 - Price and Profitability: Bidding, Estimating, Pricing, Cost and Break-even - This session will address how to price your product or service in order to be competitive. You will also learn what is necessary to break-even, by preparing an analysis of effective pricing strategies, how to prepare bids and knowing how to estimate a project.
  • Session 12 - Price and Profitability: Cost of Business and Profit - In order to remain in business, you must make a profit.  This session will address all of the essentials regarding pricing, the cost of doing a business and how to run a successful business
  • Session 13 - Price and Profitability: Cash Flow, Income Statement and Balance Sheet - This session will teach the elements of how to keep your business profitable by providing insight and understanding of cash flow analysis, preparing income and balance sheets. Maintaining accurate financial records are required when you request financial assistance from banks or other financial institutions. 
  • Session 14 - Plan for Further Action: Exit Strategy - This session will provide an understanding for the need of an exit plan.  Consideration should include; retirement, selling the business, or unforeseen consequences. 
  • Session 15 - Plan for Further Action: Traditional vs. non-Traditional funding - This session will address the questions regarding funding sources.  Where do you get the resources to work your plan? Various sources might include: banks, micro-loans, venture capital, etc.
  • Session 16 - Business Plan coaching and critique - Every business must have a plan. Learn the components to creating an effective business plan that will be evaluated by business and industry experts
  • Session 17 - Business Plan Lab/coaching - Hands-on session in preparing a working business plan
  • Session 18 - Business Plan Lab/coaching - Hands-on session to complete the final document ready business plan
Business Development Modules

  • Module 1 - How to become a MBE/DBE/WBE and/or SDVOP - This module will assist you in becoming certified as a minority, disadvantaged and/or woman or disabled veteran business enterprise.  Your business must become certified with the governmental entities in order to participate in certain set aside projects
  • Module 2 - Construction Bidding/Estimating/Strategy - Learn the essentials in preparing and compiling bid documents and estimates—this will also include blueprint reading, takeoffs and much more
  • Module 3 - Accounting and Tax Preparation - Proper and accurate accounting and tax preparation is a must for a successful business. Learn the requirements of documentation and recording of financial records; including fiscal year accountability and IRS essentials
  • Module 4 - Doing Business with the Government at local state and federal levels. Learn how to do business with governmental entities that provide the majority of contracts let within the country. Proper documentation is essential in acquiring contracts—preparation of documents for access to capital 
  • Module 5 - Small Business & Technology - This module will address the importance of technology in promoting your business, ideas and promotion of your product and services through social media, crowd-funding, website development, and so forth
  • Module 6 -  Learn how to access capital through various funding sources; including small business loans, micro-loans, venture capital and other viable sources
  • Module 7 -  Career Development/Biography, Resume & Interview - This module will help you in creating a professional resume’ including interviewing techniques to assist the individual in career development and growth potential.
The USMCA Business Development Modules are most effective in assisting business owners in reaching new levels of maturity while removing traditional barriers that consistently prohibited business growth and expansion.

The Entrepreneurial Training Institute (ETI) is offering this program to 20 highly motivated and committed new and existing business owners that desire to become a certified minority business enterprise/WBE with the city and state agencies. This is a technical assistance and mentoring program which offers leadership to business seeking business growth and procurement opportunities.


Participants will receive the following:
  • Phase I – Participant Orientation/Intake (120min). Both face to face intake and written solicitation will be utilized.  Basic business questions and scopes of interest will be ascertained prior to acceptance. Senior USMCA officials will undertake this initial process and prepare their written assessments and evaluation for program acceptance.
  • Phase II – Document review and initiation of application. USMCA has all of the existing online applications for minority certification and we undertake the process of gathering pertinent documents at the second intake session prior to preparing the rough draft of the application. 
  • Phase III – Final preparation for certification submittal – Review of rough draft of Certification documents assembled in response to the first one on one session 
  • Phase IV – Now What? Getting ready for contract opportunities with government agencies. A one on one session-mentoring with the clients on seeking bidding opportunities, understanding pre-bid conferences, importance of networking and follow up after pre-bid conferences, and bid preparation and submittals.  Students will receive brief overview of post bidding formalities and the importance of debriefing with firms that are unsuccessful bidders.
